Baudins Black Cockatoo: Conservation Status and Challenges

Rapid Population Decline

Baudins black cockatoo, also known as Baudins cockatoo or the long-billed black cockatoo, is experiencing alarmingly rapid population declines. Over the past three generations, its population has plummeted by more than 90%, primarily due to nest predation.

Nest Predation Threat

Nest predation is the primary factor contributing to the species' decline. Introduced predators, such as cats and foxes, target Baudins black cockatoo nests, preying on eggs and chicks. This relentless predation has decimated the population, leaving it critically endangered.
